Now, if alpaca, unbelievably, hosts their servers in SF bay area (facepalm here), it means that there is not only a decent hit for traveling polygon data from NY4 thousands of miles across the country, but also when your algo decides to buy or sell, the signal will have to travel back from SF to NY. If you host your bots near by, your latencies will be less than 1ms. It does seem that polygon aims to deliver their tick data reliably and fast, so, if one is located close by (eg not much travel across public internet), most likely you won't have any issues with polygon connectivity and their data feed. Polygon serves their data from NY4, the same datacenter that hosts all major fintech companies and all the exchanges. So, did anybody try them for real trading? They provide polygon API, which seems to be nice, polygon.io provides historical and realtime consolidated ticks.įrom my limited research, it does seem that alpaca serves realtime consolidated ticks through their api server located. I wasn't able to search for "alpaca", as reddit ridiculously doesn't offer a way to search in a specific community, instead I get tons to alpaca pics :)
